UP42 is changing the way geospatial data is accessed and analyzed. Our developer platform and marketplace bring together multiple sources of data such as satellite imagery, weather data, and more—with algorithms to identify objects, detect change, and find patterns. Industry leaders use UP42 to inform business decisions and build scalable customer solutions.

We are looking for an Engineering Manager – Data (m/f/x) to join our motivated team in Berlin.

Team composition and set up (our teams are arranged across core pillars/verticals):

- Users vertical - designed to focus on the fundamental platform that everything else is built upon. It includes components such as accounts & organisations, authentication, payments, as well as the core experience which is owning all of the first customer touch-points.

- Data vertical - focused on our ability to manage and provide data to our customers. It includes discovery, search-ability, price estimation, ordering, tasking, and internal operations.

- Analytics vertical - this vertical is focused on two distinct parts. The core analytics platform that enables our customers to generate insights from data at a large scale, given custom and marketplace algorithms. And the ability to integrate UP42’s technology into the geospatial ecosystem.

About the role

  • Provide cross-functional technical and people management across the engineering organization within the Data Platform vertical

  • Partner with product management to align on priorities, processes, and team execution

  • Focus on hiring, guidance, mentoring, retention, personal and professional growth of the engineering teams

  • Closely collaborate with Engineering and Product Managers and the CTO in order to align work streams to achieve company KPIs

  • Help maintain code quality, organisation, automation, and best practices

  • Support the strategy of the company, the teams, and the engineering organisation; help to guide on best practices, technical debt, quality and security

  • Contribute to our agile development processes, support in process iterations as the company and teams grow

Job requirements

About you

  • Experience in remote sensing, data management, processing pipelines, and data science is a plus
  • Experience in cross-functional team management with backend, frontend, data science and QA engineers, in a technical environment
  • Proven ability to build, grow, and retain high-performing team
  • Several years of experience in software design and development, preferably in a web-service environment
  • Proven track record delivering high availability architectures
  • Experience designing, deploying and maintaining cloud-based environments (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud Platform)
  • Delivery of platform architecture (microservices/software, architecture, and API design)
  • Experience working in an agile environment
  • Strong communication skills in English
