The developer-first platform grants access to the world’s leading providers of optical, radar, elevation, and aerial data, all in one place, and offers flexible APIs and a Python SDK to help build and scale solutions. Users can search the catalog for existing imagery, or task a satellite to capture a desired area. Whatever the use case, UP42 is the one-stop-shop for all geospatial data needs.


We are looking for an experienced HR Manager (m/f/x) to join our motivated team in Berlin.


As an HR Manager your mission is to ensure that we have the necessary processes and tools in place to cultivate a successful team and culture. Your capacity to independently oversee people operations, while also providing consultative support to managers during decision-making, will be critical to succeeding in this role.


What you will do:

  • You will act as the first point of contact for employee relation matters.

  • You will ensure compliant and consistent HR documentation digitally in our HRIS BambooHR and various other systems, as well as for paper contracts, and will handle reporting and benchmarking of gained data insights.

  • You will manage payroll preparations with our external partner, e.g. personal data or compensation changes as well as time off.

  • You will be in charge of maintaining and analyzing our benefits portfolio.

  • By understanding the business and organizational design, you will support the delivery of HR processes when partnering with business units.

  • You will partner with the VP of People & Culture and the Sr. Talent Partner on various programming initiatives, e.g. on policy and guideline implementation, organizational design or compensation benchmarking.

  • You will support various employment setups globally, e.g. hosted employees and employers of record.

  • You will drive regular people procedure cadences, e.g. onboarding operations and feedback collection, probation period feedback, yearly performance feedback and engagement survey, departure surveys.

  • As part of Learning & Development programs, you will conceptualize and deliver HR training, e.g. first-time manager onboarding program.

  • In addition to establishing trusted relationships with your unit leaders, you will also find purpose in hosting employee formats, e.g. social events or committees to ensure inclusivity, in close collaboration with our Workplace Experience Manager.

Job requirements

Here is a good summary of what we are looking for:

  • Advanced knowledge of German employment law and payroll operations is essential.

  • You have proficiency in HRIS systems, ideally BambooHR is highly desirable.

  • You have experience with performance management and engagement survey tools, e.g. Leapsome or Lawpilots.

  • You bring in a solid understanding of business operations to effectively partner with unit managers on goal setting and performance management initiatives.

  • You have strong influencing and consultancy skills with the ability to navigate complex situations effectively.

  • You embody a resourceful and positive attitude paired with a “can do” mentality

  • And last but not least: You’re fully business-fluent in English and German.

Bonus points if you bring:

  • Experience in setting up scalable programs in tech start-up environments.
